Have you ever seen a movie or television show where couples and families gather under the stars to watch movies on a big screen? I’ve always thought that was the coolest thing ever and thought that this would be a great thing to do on a hot summer night. I mean really – how romantic is that? A blanket, a nice breeze, a cooler of snacks and drinks (don’t forget drinking in public is against the law though!) – how could it get any better than that.
Movie night outdoors is a great way to spend some time with your family, too if the right movie is playing and now, you can partake in movie night at Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg. Every Friday night in August you and your family or you and a loved one can enjoy the stars and the cinema on the Lyric Lawn in Assiniboine Park.
There is an Early Feature at 7:15 PM so that you do not have to keep the little ones out too late and there is a Late Feature at 9:15 PM for those who have older children or for those who just want a more romantic environment.
August 5th
Early Feature – Happy Feet: In a world where penguins are supposed to be able to sing and have heartsong, little Mumble can only tap dance. He’s very good at it but he just doesn’t fit in with the other penguins. When little Mumble is cast out of the community because of his inability to sing, he needs to find his own way in the world.
Late Feature – Avatar: This blockbuster hit is a movie that people want to see over and over again. It is about a paraplegic marine that finds himself in the middle of a battle for survival and must find a way to defend his new friends. Even if you’ve already seen this movie you won’t want to miss it on the outdoor screen!
August 12th
Early Feature – Night at the Museum: When a newly recruited security guard in a museum finds out that there is a curse that makes all the displays come to life, his job becomes a lot more interesting and a lot funnier, too.
Late Feature – Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: When Frodo, a young hobbit, acquires a ring that has amazing powers, he knows that it must be destroyed to protect his world and he and his sidekick, Sam, set out on an epic mission.
August 19th
Early Feature – Ice Age 2: The Meltdown: When the ice age is over, the melting begins and Diego, Manny and Sid know they must warn everyone before the big melt hits the valley.
Late Feature – Raiders of the Lost Ark: This classic movie can only be improved on the big outdoor screen. Indiana Jones is the only one that can find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis but that doesn’t mean it is going to be an easy journey!
August 26th
Early Feature – Monsters vs. Aliens: Who didn’t love this animation movie? When a younger woman grows to monster size she’s put away and meets a bunch of monsters who are recruited to defeat the aliens that are attacking the earth.
Late Feature – Top Gun: This is the perfect date night movie. Filled with action for the guys and loads of romance for the girls it is a classic movie that no one should miss. And if you’ve seen it again it will be that much more romantic under
