2011: A year in Review

Saturday is New Year’s Eve, and the year in review articles, top ten lists of 2011, and 2012 predictions are showing up everywhere. This time of year always inspires reflection, which led us to think about some of the incredible milestones we’ve experienced over the past 12 months and what we have to look forward to in 2012.

CML warns house repossessions will rise

The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) expects the number of house repossessions to increase by 21.6 per cent from 37,000 this year to 45,000 in 2012 due to an increase in unemployment and falling household incomes.

The CML also expects housing transactions to fall next year, with 825,000 homes expected to be sold compared with an estimated 852,000 this year.

Home Prices Dip in September

Home prices across the nation fell in September, after posting gains during the spring and summer, according to the latest reading of the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller index.

Prices fell 0.6 percent from September to October, and 3.6 percent from the previous year. Out of the 20 cities tracked by the index, prices dipped in 17, breaking the five month streak where at least half of the cities showed monthly increases.
