December a sweet month in sour year for Utah home sales

Written on January 20, 2011 by Brooke Wardlaw

The number of people who bought previously owned homes nationwide last year fell to the lowest level in 13 years. But sales in December jumped to their fastest pace in seven months.

The trend was the same in Utah, where sales were weak for the year, but showed signs of strength in the final month, the Salt Lake Board of Realtors reported Thursday. The National Association of Realtors says sales dropped 4.8 percent, to 4.91 million units in 2010. That was slightly lower than 2008, which had been the weakest level since 1997.

City purchases 18 acres for reservoir

Written on January 16, 2011 by Rose Ryrie

Tucson purchased roughly 18 acres of land just north of Tucson International Airport to build a 32-million-gallon reservoir.

“These expenses have no impact on the city’s general fund,” Molina said. “All operations and debt repayment are funded through revenues received from water sales.”

The parcel was purchased as an end-point storage reservoir for water from the Central Arizona Project, Molina said.
