Chicago Home Gets a Famous Owner

Written on September 24, 2011 by Brooke Wardlaw

Earlier today, we talked about Chicago real estates richest residents, as listed according to Forbes magazine.

Next years list could include someone new: Rosie ODonnell has bought a beautiful home in Chicagos prestigious Lakeview neighborhood.

ODonnell is moving to town to host, The Rosie Show, a Chicago-based talk show that will premiere on Oprah Winfreys OWN network starting October 10 and will be filmed at Oprahs Harpo Studios at Washington and Carpenter Streets in Chicago.

ODonnell, 49, purchased the Wrigleyville home and all its furnishings from the seller, who is reportedly an executive at the Oprah Winfrey Network.

The 6,000-square-foot abode, which had an asking price of $2.5 million, was built in 2007 and is located on an over-sized lot at 1517 W. Grace Street in Chicago.

The three-story brick and limestone mansion includes an open floor plan, 11-foot ceilings and extensive millwork, five bedrooms, five full baths and two half baths, three fireplaces, a finished basement with a theater room, a 2,000-square-foot roof deck and a three car-heated garage.

Originally ODonnell discussed commuting from New York, where her four children live, to tape her show here. There were rumors that the comedienne was going to move into Chicagos Trump Tower, but that was refuted after Donald Trump announced that he does not support civil rights for gay couples. ODonnell is a gay-rights activist.

Now it seems that her kids will do a lot of the commuting as they share time here in Chicago with ODonnell and in New York with ex-partner Kelli Carpenter.

Welcome to Chicago, Rosie! We hope you and your family will be very happy here.
