What’s happening in Los Angeles this weekend?

I am relieved that I don’t live near the 405 and don’t need to worry about the closure. Although I will be working most of the weekend, I won’t be on the Westside of town. I have compiled a list of fun things to do this weekend and mostly local:

Ponies and horses give youngsters safe rides around an oval track. Miniature covered wagon rides are also a feature of the pony concession. $3.00 per rider

Admission to the Observatory building and grounds is FREE. There is a nominal charge to see shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.

The miniature train ride has served the public in Griffith Park since 1948. Youngsters of all ages enjoy the experience of riding the FREEDOM TRAIN or the COLONEL GRIFFITH on the Griffith Park Southern Railroad. The track stretches over a mile and takes the rider past pony rides, through a lush green meadow, through an old Western town, and past a Native American village. $2.50 per rider

Old stone sinks and animal troughs have been used to grow plants for many years. Today, they are scarce and very expensive. But now, we can make them from hypertufa, an artificial medium with absorbent properties similar to tufa rock that is lighter than regular concrete. You will be making a hypertufa planting pot! Wear comfortable clothes, a hat and bring water. Be prepared to have fun and get dirty!
Langham Pasadena Wine Tasting Classes in The Royce

Wine tasting classes on Saturday afternoons with Director of Wine Eric Espuny. Classes will be available for groups of 4 – 8 people.
